Journal #8 Response to Olivia Caridi

President Lincoln and Henry Garnet both pushed for the TRUE emancipation of slaves. Like Olivia pointed out, slaves were still being burdened in areas that the government either was not in control or areas they could not control. Lincoln pleads with his countrymen and points out the absurdity and hypocrisy of slavery when he said "It may seem strange that any men should dare to ask a just God's assistance in wringing their bread from the sweat of other men's faces, but let us judge not, that we be not judged." Lincoln did not want any man or women, regardless of race to miss out on the American dream. I like that Olivia pointed this out in her blog. The American dream is something we have talked about, in depth, in class. I believe the preservation of this American dream for all was the ultimate goal of President Lincoln and Henry Garnet. No man, woman, or child should be denied their right to the American Dream regardless of their race.
